Pere fine after Down Royal fall

Notre Pere appears to be none the worse for his fall in the JNwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal on Saturday.

The evens favourite was preparing to challenge the all-the-way winner The Listener when crashing out at the fifth last fence.

"He seems fine. We won't really know until midweek. He won't be ridden today, he'll be ridden tomorrow, but he's sound to trot," said trainer Jim Dreaper.

"We hope it was just one of those things and try to get it right next time.

"As for plans, it depends. If he's stiff and sore when he jumps, if and when we ask him next week, plans will be on hold but it seems there is no great problem."

The eight-year-old, winner of the Coral Welsh National and the Punchestown Guinness Gold Cup last season, holds entries in the Betfair Chase and the Hennessy Gold Cup later this month.
