Pietropaolo completes first double Seventeen-year-old jockey Julian Pietropaolo registered his first double today, completing the feat on the Pat Magee-trained Searcog in Punchestown's concluding See You On The 14th & 15th October Handicap (Div II). Successful earlier on the Joseph O’Brien-trained Kashel Spring, Pietropaolo initially held Searcog in mid-field before improving her to lead inside the final furlong, for a three lengths win over Echinacea . Regarding the Eleven Apostles Syndicate’s 42-rated filly, Magee mentioned “the better ground was a help and she’s a big filly who probably took plenty of time to come to hand. “She was dropping to a mark where you’d be starting to lose hope and I was very disappointed the last day but she didn’t enjoy the headgear. Little things just weren’t going right, but I fancied her today as she had worked very well during the week. “She will jump a hurdle too as she’s a big scopey filly who stays going.” The Cavan-based trainer, with his seventh success this season, added “that’s Julian’s third winner for me, he’s a good young lad and is a valuable 7lb off light weights and he can do it comfortably. Fair play to him having a double today, I’m delighted for him. “The filly is in again at Dundalk on Friday but might not get a run as she lost her ballot mark. If she gets a run it’s a possibility.” Quotes from Gary Carson
