Plan comes to fruition with Kyle Valley Kyle Valley bossed things from the front in the Racing TV Free Month Trial Handicap Chase at Tramore, to triumph in the hands of champion conditional rider Tiernan Power Roche. The dual point-to-point scorer was having her first start over racecourse fences on this occasion, and she stepped up on a close Kilbeggan handicap hurdle second placing in April. After his down the field effort here yesterday evening, Roman Parish turned out quickly again. He did much better, but in the end he had to yield by six and a half lengths to Kyle Valley, in the silver medal position. Winning trainer Philip Rothwell explained afterwards: "She won two point-to-points for Sean Osborne, one of my best friends. Micheal (Doyle, owner, with his wife Caroline) was involved with her at that stage and they sent her my way. "She struggled over hurdles and she's ordinary, it's no secret. I told her owners that if we ran in four handicap hurdles, that she could run over fences off her hurdles rating. She had experience from point-to-pointing. "She went up 3lb for being second in Kilbeggan and Tiernan claimed 5lb off her today, so she was 2lb lighter over fences, off her hurdles mark. It looked expensive at the time going through handicap hurdles but now she's competitive at both. "She looked really well in the parade ring today and the lads at home have done a really good job with her. She looked a million dollars. "It was the plan to go out in front. She had a very light weight, in a very ordinary chase around the bends here and with loads of jumping experience. "I'm delighted she has won. Micheal is a great supporter and is involved in another horse with Lar Byrne. It's lovely to get a winner for him. "The horses are running really well and I have very good team at home making it happen." P.M. O'Brien, rider of Milan Dollar Lady, trained by T.Hogan, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount never travelled. (DM & EM)
