Plenty of Irish interest in the UK today

Despite there being no racing in Ireland today, there is plenty of Irish interest in the UK, with six horses crossing the Irish Sea in search of success.

At the seven race card at Sedgefield, four Irish horses are declared, with Gordon Elliott responsible for three while Noel Glynn trains the one remaining.

Russian War gets the day started for Elliott in the 2:40, a Beginners Chase over 2m 4f. Tony McCoy will ride the gelding and Elliott's two other runners.

This son of Moscow Society has been disappointing on his two starts over fences. Having won six times over hurdles, he was overturned when sent off the 4/5 favourite at Newton Abbot at the beginning of the month on his first start over fences.

He then fell four out when beginning to struggle on his next start at Listowel in the race won by De Valira.

Much better will be expected of him today in what looks an ordinary contest.

Manger Hanagement is next up thirty minutes later in a 2m 5f Novice Hurdle.

This gelding by Heron Island is seeking his fifth win in succession and having won his last four starts with ease he should do so again here.

Cape Secret rounds the day off for team Elliott & McCoy another thirty minutes on, in a Handicap Hurdle over 2m 4f.

This son of Cape Cross will have to recapture his best form if he is to be in the mix, in what looks a competitive handicap.

Humbel Ben for Noel Glynn is the last Irish raider of the day at Sedgefield and he goes to post for the 4:20 which is a Handicap Chase over 2m 4f.

Meanwhile up in Scotland, at Ayr, two Irish trained horses will do battle in the last race on the card, an apprentice handicap over a mile.

Pacey Outswinger for John McConnell and Sultana Belle for Lee Smyth are the two in question.

The former, who is a 4yo filly by Intikhab, ran well on her last start at Bellewstown in August finishing fifth to Fairy Wing and will be ridden by three pound claimer Jake Payne today.

The latter, Sultana Belle, will be competing in her first handicap here having run in three maidens in at Sligo, Down Royal and most recently Bellewstown. She will be ridden by five pound claimer Shirley Teasdale.
