Plenty of options for Caponata

Connections of Caponata have yet to map out a plan for the filly following her recent Listed race victory.

The Dermot Weld-trained filly was a stylish winner of a Gowran maiden on her racecourse debut in May before stepping up to claim Listed honours in the Naas Oaks Trial.

Caponata would have to be supplemented for the Darley Irish Oaks on July 22nd and she holds a handful of entries at present, including the Group 3 Kilboy Estates Stakes on the same day and the Yorkshire Oaks at York next month.

While nothing has been ruled out, Weld and owner Khalid Abdullah have not decided on an immediate target.

"We are currently considering the plan for her. She has plenty of options from a mile to a mile and a half but we have not quite decided where we will go," said Abdullah's racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe.

"We hope she will eventually make her mark in the bigger prizes and Dermot Weld and Prince Khalid have been discussing the possibilities.

"The Irish Oaks is still an option, but she would have to be supplemented for the race. I'm not certain she would stay that distance though and it might just come a little bit too soon."
