Plumton Queen turns over hotpot in Cork's opener Cork’s opener was the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Academy Hurdle over two miles and a furlong and, not unexpectedly, there was a fair amount of novicey jumping on display from a field of seven newcomers. Plumton Queen came out on top for Gavin Cromwell and Kevin Sexton after getting the better of a good tussle with the 4/9 favourite World Of The Way. The pair joined issue two out where longtime leader Destinedforhistory departed, and the homebred daughter of Masar, owned by Mrs A Cantillon, held a narrow advantage over the market leader at the last. Both fillies made mistakes at that final obstacle, and it was Plumton Queen (8/1) who stayed on best to win by a length and a quarter. "She is a nice filly, Gavin was sweet on her and they fancied her,” said Sexton. “I schooled her on Friday morning, when I really liked her, but she is plenty raw and is a big baby. "She is Flat-bred but looks like a National Hunt-filly and when I saw her on Friday, I was impressed. She isn't your typical three-year-old and will only improve. "She got in tight to a couple of hurdles but jumped well on the whole. It was her first time having her head in front today, and I was always confident she would win. "I'm in with Gavin two days a week and hopefully now we keep kicking." Additional reporting by Tom Weekes
