One Cool Poet will bid to follow up his remarkable hat-trick at the Galway Festival with victory on Irish Champions Weekend.

Having filled the runner-up spot on the Flat at Limerick and over fences at Tipperary in July, the seven-year-old recorded his first win in over four years on the second day of the showpiece fixture at Ballybrit.

Matthew Smith’s charge doubled up less than 48 hours later and bolted up when making it three wins in five days on the penultimate afternoon of action.

Having started the Galway Festival on a mark of just 66, One Cool Poet is now rated 91 and Smith is looking forward to going pot hunting in one of the lucrative handicaps at either Leopardstown or the Curragh.

He said: “He’s entered on the Saturday and Sunday for Champions Weekend, so we will take a look and probably make a decision closer to the time.

“He’s (rated) 91 now and he will get in, so why not? We’ll take our chance.”
