Poetic Twist gained a deserved success for jockey Sam Ewing and trainer Gordon Elliott as she ran out a comfortable two-and-three-quarter-length winner in the Kilbarry Lodge Stud Maiden Hurdle.

The 11/10 favourite dictated matters throughout and put her consistent recent efforts to good use as she finally got off the mark. She jumped well throughout the contest and, when given her orders by Ewing to extend, she duly obliged.

Speaking after the race, jockey Sam Ewing said:

“I made the running, she lugged a bit left the whole way round and jumped a bit left at a couple. I suppose it was maybe the lack of company in front but it didn’t stop her, she did it very well.

“It was a good run last time, the ground was probably a little bit slower then. She has a good few placed efforts, Ardeen Joy, who was third behind her (in Cork), was a little bit unlucky last night so the form is working out.

“We fancied her today and it’s nice to get her off the mark.

“She jumped away perfect there tonight in front and I didn’t have to be too hard on her. She stayed on well and we didn’t go that slow either.”
