Pontefract abandoned This evening's Flat meeting at Pontefract has been abandoned after torrential rain. Officials called off the fixture following a 2pm inspection, with a thunderstorm at lunchtime leaving the West Yorkshire course waterlogged. "We had half an inch of rain during a thunderstorm in about 15 minutes, which put us right on the edge," said assistant clerk of the course Richard Hamill. "We've had another three millimetres of rain since then which has left areas of the track under standing water and there is further rain forecast later on. "We just didn't feel it was safe and delaying a decision which we thought was inevitable."
