Pony Racing beats the freeze

The Pony Racing fraternity got their sport back on track with a meeting on the beach at Ballyheigue in Co. Kerry this afternoon.

Eleven-year-old Jack Kennedy from Dingle rode a double on the day thanks to Pair Of Jacks and Molly’s Dream. Jack is the younger brother of National Hunt rider Paddy Kennedy.

Paul and Nina Carberry’s cousin Megan was also in double form, winning on Changing Times before landing the Featured Ballyheigue Derby aboard Rock Hopper which was winning the contest for the second consecutive year. Megan turns seventeen next week.

Eddie Lenehan’s younger brother Dennis (11) rode their father’s Miracle Dolly to victory while another promising Cork rider Conor King was successful aboard Euro King.

Need For Speed provided Harley Dunne with his last winner on the Pony circuit when taking the one mile two furlong maiden race. Harley, who is seventeen, will apply for his track licence next week and will be attached to the Colin Bowe yard.
