Psycho set for Powers test

Psycho will step up to Grade One company for the first time in the Powers Gold Cup at Fairyhouse on Sunday.

The nine-year-old has suffered narrow defeats in races like the County Hurdle at Cheltenham and the Pierse Hurdle at Leopardstown.

He was mightily impressive when opening his account over fences at Clonmel earlier this month and trainer Tony Martin is ready to step his charge up in class.

"He was very good in Clonmel and he'll probably go for the Powers Gold Cup on Sunday," said Martin.

"He might not have a lot of experience over fences having only had two runs but he's also run in a couple of point-to-points and been around a few different tracks, so hopefully he'll be all right.

"I don't think the ground matters to him and while it's a step up in class, he deserves a crack at it and we'll give it a shot."
