Punters Put Faith In Nannina

Money continues to come for Stan James 1000 Guineas fancy Nannina ahead of the Newmarket Classic on May 7.

The John Gosden-trained filly was trimmed to 11-2 from 7-1 by Coral yesterday with the Barking-based firm reporting little money behind long-time favourite Rumplestiltskin, who was eased to 7-2 from 3-1.

'Both Race For The Stars and Nannina have been well supported in recent days, suggesting Rumplestiltskin may well head to France rather than Newmarket,' said Coral's David Stevens.

Gosden, meanwhile, is happy with his charge, who will go straight to the Rowley Mile without a prep run.

'She's doing fine, I'm very pleased with her,' the trainer said of his Fillies' Mile heroine.

'She is cantering and doing some half-speeds but I haven't done a lot with most of my horses due to the very late cold spring and there's no exception with the fillies.

'The plan at this stage is to go straight to the Guineas with her. There's not a lot of point in running her in one of the trials as we would have to back her up in distance.'

Nannina won three of her five starts last term and the Cheveley Park Stud-owned filly is also entered in the Vodafone Oaks, for which she is a 20-1 chance with Hills.

Gosden added: 'She's a genuine filly and I think a mile would be her minimum trip. I'm confident she will get 10 furlongs this season.'
