Racing cancelled at Fairyhouse Racing at Fairyhouse today has been cancelled at 3.05pm. Following an inspection of the track, the meeting's three subsequent races were cancelled due to false patches of ground. The going was changed to heavy after the third race, and a number of withdrawals had taken place throughout the afternoon. After the running of the fourth race, a deputation of trainers and jockeys including Noel Meade, Dessie Hughes, Paul Carberry and Andrew McNamara expressed their concern about the state of the ground. Clerk of the Course Joe Collins, course manager Peter Roe and a number of Stewards inspected the track and racing was later cancelled. Collins stated "we inspected the last bend, the bend at Ballyhackand the ground approaching the final flight and found sections of false ground. "The jockeys were happy after the first race but as the water got into the ground, things got progressively worse. In the interests of safety, racing had to be cancelled." Jockey Andrew McNamara briefly mentioned "the ground was perfectly safe for race-riding but was unfair on horses. The surface was inconsistent and horses were stumbling and losing their actions - today's cancellation was nobody's fault."
