Racing pays its respects to Vincent O'Brien

The good and the great from racing, both past and present, turned out in force to say their farewells to Dr. Vincent O'Brien at his funeral Mass in St. Conleth's Church in Newbridge Co. Kildare this afternoon.

A packed church listened to a moving tribute by younger son Charles O'Brien, on behalf of his extended family, to his late father.

Charles touched upon some of the remarkable training achievements of Vincent and painted the picture of a warm, quiet, loving and deeply religious family man who will be sadly missed by all who were fortunate to have known him.

The congregation had travelled from all corners of Ireland as well as Great Britain, France, America and Australia and included numerous personalities from both the training and riding professions. There were also representatives of both An Taoiseach Brian Cowan and The President of Ireland Mary McAleese.

May he rest in peace.
