Radio Station trashes Sedgefield racecourse

Sedgefield racecourse officials are furious after finding their turf damaged in a radio stunt.

Head Groundsman, Mark Davison was carrying out a routine course inspection after Tuesday 9th race meeting, when he disturbed an intruder.

Later identified as Galaxy Radio's, Andy Saxton, the intruder was in the process of digging a hole on the home straight.

Mr Saxton, marketing manager, claimed he was burying £25,000 of gold treasure for a competition to be played later in November, and would make good any damage caused.

A spokesperson for Galaxy 105-106 confirmed Mr Saxton's explanation, saying:

'Galaxy Radio is extremely sorry for any inconvenience to the Racecourse, that was not our intention. We wanted to bury the treasure at a prominent Northeast location. In hindsight it would have been better to ask permission from Sedgefield Racecourse first.

'Due to the nature of the competition being so secretive, we thought the fewer people involved the better.

'We hope this incident will not damage our relationship with Sedgefield, and that once the competition is on air later in November all will become clear.'

Commercial Executive, Cassandra Jackson from Sedgefield Racecourse said 'While we appreciate Galaxy's explanation there was still actual damage caused to the track near to the Skybet Fence. It has been repaired at cost to the radio station and we will be ready for our next race fixture on Tuesday 23rd of November.'
