Rain would be huge boost to in-form Bethell with Paborus Ed Bethell is banking on a break in the weather enabling him to get Paborus back on track in the Sky Bet City Of York Stakes on Saturday. The five-year-old returned from a year off to win the Chipchase Stakes at Newcastle in June. Bethell has been desperate to run in the interim, but the hot summer has meant he has been off games as he likes a bit of give in the ground. “The rain looks like it might be arriving, on Monday and Tuesday there could be some and I hope it keeps raining,” he said. “I’d love to get him out on the track, he needs a bit of juice in the ground. “He’s been great since Newcastle, he hasn’t run because of the ground, I just hope we get enough to run and showcase what he can do. “I’m very excited by him, he’s a great horse to have in the yard. “It’s hard to build them up and then not get to run – I’ll tell you how hard after next week! It’s not an easy task bringing them back down and building back up again, but I’m very fortunate to have a nice horse like him “I just hope we can go on and have a bit of fun with him.”
