Randox in five-year deal to sponsor Ulster National Randox has been announced as the new sponsor of the Ulster National on a five-year deal. The healthcare diagnostics giant was unveiled as the backer of Downpatrick’s showpiece race at a function in Montalto House, Ballynahinch, Co Down on Wednesday. This year’s race takes place on Sunday March 22nd and carries an increased prize fund of €50,000. It has been on the racing calendar since 1939 and is run over three and a half miles. The announcement sees Randox sponsor both the Grand National at Aintree and the Ulster National. Dr Peter FitzGerald, Randox Managing Director, said: “This is an incredibly exciting time to be partnering with Downpatrick Racecourse to add the Randox Ulster National to our racing portfolio. “We are delighted to be involved with such an historic race and racecourse. The management of Downpatrick Racecourse is very innovative and we appreciate innovation. “We are looking forward to an exciting and enjoyable ride.” Peter Stewart, Downpatrick Racecourse Chairman, said: “It is certainly a feather in our cap that the Ulster National and Grand National share the same sponsor. “We are really excited to partner with such a respected global brand as Randox for our most prestigious race meeting and look forward to working closely together to create a wonderful race day for our customers and achieve our shared objectives.” Amaulino landed the Ulster National last year for Co Armagh trainer Keith Watson and will bid to defend his crown. Watson’s son, Marshall, said: “Amaulino is hopefully back on track and will go for the race. He could then go for the Irish Grand National (at Fairyhouse) on Easter Monday." Randox Ulster National Day will also include live music before and after racing, a Q Radio live roadshow, a vintage fashion and Gatsby gin bar, and a Game of Thrones 'Iron Throne' Display. Randox is based in Crumlin, Co Antrim and was founded in 1982 by Dr FitzGerald. It has more than 1,500 employees in over 145 countries.
