Recovery time concerns Charlton Roger Charlton admits he would have preferred a longer gap between Al Kazeem's Royal Ascot win in the Prince of Wales's Stakes and tomorrow's Coral-Eclipse at Sandown. Just 17 days separate the two Group One contests over 10 furlongs, but the first three all renew rivalry. Al Kazeem's gutsy Ascot win over Mukhadram and The Fugue was his second Group One success of the season having already beaten dual Derby winner Camelot in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh and he will aim to make it three in Esher. "There are no rules [as to how fast horses recover]," Charlton said. "Ideally you'd probably want three weeks, but the fact is there's only 17 days and it is hard to tell. "He's in good form and I think he's recovered, but who knows. "The Fugue and Mukhadram all ran in the same race, so it will be interesting to see how they compare. "These good horses don't come along very often, as we all know. It's important to win Group One races and it was great to win in Ireland, but to go back-to-back is more difficult. It seemed a long way up that straight at Ascot and while I was completely confident in James [Doyle], you couldn't take it for granted he was going to get there. "I think the stiff finish will suit and he's a winner over course and distance. We see him really as a mile-and-a-half horse so it's a bonus he's able to win over a mile and a quarter. "Declaration Of War has always been held in high regard and produced some very good figures in his work in the spring, but like quite a few, he didn't fire in the Lockinge. He was very impressive in the Queen Anne and as always I have huge respect for any horse from Ballydoyle. He's a serious contender. "The Fugue probably would come on plenty for Ascot and has a fantastic record and no doubt she'll finish closer this time and Mukhadram has a very good profile. He improved enormously from his first run to his second and who knows how much more there is to come."
