Red Mills option for Tranquil

The Red Mills Chase at Gowran Park on February 12 is a possible target for Tranquil Sea before he heads to the Ryanair Chase at the Festival in March.

The nine-year-old won the rearranged John Durkan Memorial Chase at Fairyhouse last month and trainer Edward O'Grady reports that he might have one more run before Cheltenham.

"He'll possibly run in the Red Mills Chase at Gowran Park on February 12. After that it will be straight for the Ryanair," said O'Grady.

"I'm hopeful that his John Durkan win was a little bit cosier than the winning margin," the County Tipperary trainer added.

The ten-time winner is prominent in the antepost market for the Ryanair Chase, and O'Grady believes that he wasn't his normal self when a well-beaten ninth in last-season's renewal.

"I'm hopeful that his Ryanair run last year wasn't his true form," he said.

Eight of the gelding's ten wins have come on ground described as soft or heavy, however the Ballynonty handler doesn't feel his stable star needs testing going to be at his best.

"I don't think he needs soft ground. I don't think the ground matters a lot to him but it might matter more to some of the other horses in the race," he added.
