Rider Search For Hughes

Pat Hughes faces a search to find a jockey to partner Point Barrow in his final warm-up race ahead of the John Smith's Grand National.

Philip Carberry was to have taken the mount, but he is suspended and misses seven Irish racing days.

The Bagenalstown trainer wants to run last year's Irish National hero at Down Royal on Saturday week or in the hurdle race over two and three-quarter miles at Navan the following week which he won 12 months ago.

'He might have one more run before he goes to Aintree and I would prefer to go to Down Royal,' said Hughes.

'I'd have liked Philip Carberry to ride him, but he's been suspended for seven days so he's ruled out of both races. It looks like I've got to find another jockey for him.'

Point Barrow was reported to be in fine form following his latest outing when he was third to Homer Wells in the Bobbyjo Chase at Fairyhouse last month.

'He's very well and has been cantering this morning,' he added.

Point Barrow is 16-1 for the Grand National at Aintree on April 14 in which he is set to carry 10st 12lb.
