BoyleSports Horse Racing ambassador Robbie Power gives his thoughts on his three rides at Haydock and talks about his regular mount Master Debonair which runs in the opening race at Ascot.

1.15 AscotMaster Debonair

It’s a great ride for JonJo O’Neill to pick up with me being in Haydock and I’ll be watching Master Debonair very closely at Ascot. He’s been two from two at Ascot but he faces arguably his toughest opponent in Sporting John. It’s a tough race with only four runners but Master Debonair will do his usual front running. He likes to get on with things and his jumping last time out was much better and if that improves again I think he’ll be a tough nut for Sporting John to crack.

2.05 HaydockWest Approach

I’m looking forward to West Approach who’s back over hurdles. He’s had a decent campaign this season over fences. He was a good winner at the November meeting in Cheltenham and the plan is to go for the Stayers Hurdle at the festival. We think we’ve found the key to riding him so he’d have to have a good chance in this one today.

3.15 Haydock - Elegant Escape

Elegant Escape will love the ground and the trip so everything should suit him. He has top weight which will make it more difficult for him but he has top weight for a reason. He’s had a wind operation since the Welsh Grand National and he seems to be in great form at home.

3.50 HaydockKilbricken Storm

Kilbricken Storm is a former winner of Albert Bartlett Novice hurdle at Cheltenham a couple of seasons back but he has found life a bit difficult since. He has kept very good company and he’s been running in all the top races but he’s just found that a step too far. He hasn’t been beaten far in any of the races that he’s run and with the drop in class he’d have to have an each-way chance.
