Sandown Friday for Muntazah

Muntazah could make his seasonal reappearance in the bet365 Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown on Friday.

The Owen Burrows-trained four-year-old has not been seen since last July, when he was last of seven in the Princess of Wales's Stakes at Newmarket, although he had previously run well to be fourth in the Dante Stakes won by Wings Of Desire.

Burrows said: "He's entered in the Gordon Richards. His Dante run was a very good run."

He went on: "Things didn't then go to plan in the Princess of Wales's. It was a bit falsely run. James McDonald (Big Orange) rode a great race in stacking them up single file.

"It transpired when he came back that we found a problem, so that was him finished for the season.

"Touch-wood, I've a had a good, clear run with him. It will be a nice starting spot for him and Sandown will suit him.

"I can see us going back to a mile and a half, but for his first run this will be perfect.

"I'd like to think he could be a Hardwicke horse. He works like a nice horse and fingers crossed we can have a bit of fun with him."

Burrows also had news of Massaat, who was second to Galileo Gold in the 2000 Guineas but sustained an injury when ninth in the Derby and has had just the one run since, when below-par at Salisbury in August.

He said: "He came back to me last Wednesday. He had a little problem after Salisbury which we sorted out.

"Unfortunately, back at Shadwell on his recuperation he kicked the wall as he was fresh in his box and just moved the shoe. The toe-clip pierced his foot. That's pretty inoffensive, normally, but it took quite a while to heal up.

"He actually chipped a bone in his foot which he had to have removed and all flushed out and tidied.

"He has done a couple of weeks trotting back at Shadwell. He will trot until the end of this month and all being well he will start cantering in early May. It will be the latter part of July before we can start beginning to look for a race for him.

"Obviously Champions Day would be a good long-term target. Looking at Salisbury it was very fast ground that day.

"I'm not saying that was the main reason for his setback but he is a big, heavy-topped horse and he probably wants a bit of cut in the ground.

"It was good in the Guineas and he won his maiden on good to soft so we will be looking to run him on good or good to soft ground.

"I think he is definitely a miler. Just seeing him now, he has filled out. He is quite a solid and chunky horse."
