SANDOWN THREATENED BY RAIN Action-starved fans of British jumps racing may have to wait a little longer for the return of the sport with the news that heavy rain in the south-east has put tomorrow`s Sandown card in doubt. Officials at the Surrey course have called a precautionary inspection for 7am tomorrow after unexpected heavy rain earlier today put the meetings at the course on Friday and Saturday in jeopardy. With no confirmed cases of the disease in the area officials at the track had earlier this week given the go-ahead to the two-day fixture and are confident that all the necessary precautions, set out under the Jockey Club`s guidelines for racecourses, can be put into place. However there are no doubts over Saturday`s two other British meetings at Warwick and Wolverhampton. Plumpton, due to race on Monday, has remained relatively unaffected by foot and mouth. However, Sedgefield`s meeting on Tuesday has become another victim of the crisis and Fakenham next Friday has also fallen.
