The Joseph O'Brien-trained Santerno wore down Nando Royale close home to land the spoils in the mile claimer at Naas.

Joey Sheridan got a good tune from the Starspangledbanner colt in the closing stages to get him up for a neck victory.

The winner had finished mid-division in a strong Curragh maiden last time.

Stable representative Michael Halford said:-

"He had a good run at the Curragh the last day. We thought with a reproduction of that, provided he stayed, he'd have a winning chance.

“He was quite green when Joey went for him but he got there at the right time. He looks like a horse that will step forward again."
