Scans prove clear on apprentice Downey Irish apprentice Robbie Downey appears to have escaped serious injury after suffering a heavy fall in the final race at Dundalk on Thursday evening. The 3lb claimer was partnering Miss Mirabeau in the extended mile-and-a-quarter handicap when his mount was hampered and stumbled early in the home straight, sending Downey to the ground. The 22-year-old was briefly unconscious and was taken to hospital for further assessment, but subsequent scans returned clear. The Irish Turf Club's chief medical officer, Dr Adrian McGoldrick, said: "I spoke to Robbie at around 10pm last night and he was perfectly alert. "All the scans he had were clear and they were deciding whether to keep him in overnight or let him go home. "He was unconscious for around a minute and it looks like he has straightforward concussion, so he'll be stood down for six days. "I thought I'd let him have a lie in this morning and I'll check on him later, but hopefully he's OK."
