The Fermoy Handicap Hurdle was aptly won by a trainer based near that east Cork town, with Sean Allen's Cappa Hill (8/1) coming out on top in this nine-runner heat.

Starting off in handicap company after some encouraging maiden efforts, the Kingston Hill five-year-old raced in mid-division under Darragh O'Keeffe, taking closer order on the approach to the straight.

Ridden to the front after three out, he was tackled by Avalo approaching the last and came away from that flight the quicker.

Kept up to his work on the run-in, he ultimately held off the renewed effort of his aforementioned rival, with half-a-length between them at the line.

The runner-up, who beat the winner when they clashed at Wexford in May, was returned at 4/1 under Jake Coen for Peter Fahey.

Eoin McCarthy 's Wholelotofbusiness (10/1) finished a further four-and-three-quarters of a length back in third, while Secret Rock (5/2f) could only manage a disappointing fifth.

"We got his wind done after the last day, which seems to have worked the oracle," Allen, who was registering his second winner on the track, revealed.

"Avalo beat him in his maiden hurdle but our horse liked the nice ground today and you won't get any hardier than the man on board.

"If anyone wants to buy him, he is for sale and he should win again. He'll jump a fence and has been very consistent.

"I'm a farmer but we have ten horses so it is an expensive hobby. We're in Araglin and Darragh, who rides, is my brother and Johnny Allen (leading Australian Flat jockey) is my cousin."
