SEDGEFIELD WASHED OUT

Today`s English meeting at Sedgefield has been called off after heavy rain left the track waterlogged.

The stewards inspected the course at 7.30am and Sedgefield`s manager Alan Brown said: 'We`ve abandoned. There`s standing water on the course.

'It has rained virtually non-stop since 1.15 yesterday afternoon - at least 12 hours rain.'

Southwell will go ahead following an 8.00 inspection this morning.

A total of 19 millimetres of rain had fallen overnight putting the fixture in doubt.

However, after walking the track clerk of the course Michael Prosser said: 'We are going to race and the going is now heavy.

'We will omit the first fence in the home straight.'
