Gidleigh Park has been ruled out of an intended run at Kempton this weekend due to a setback.

Harry Fry’s imposing seven-year-old has suffered an interrupted season so far, pulling up with a fibrillating heart at Kempton on his chasing bow in November having already had his campaign delayed due to a dry autumn.

He bounced back in style from that outing with victory in the Grade Two Lightning Novices’ Chase at Windsor last month, beating Caldwell Pottr by an impressive four lengths.

Fry had been intending to run him in the Ladbrokes Pendil Novices’ Chase this weekend but plans are now on hold.

In a post on X, Fry said: “Gidleigh Park has suffered a setback, which prevents us from running him on Saturday in the Pendil Novices’ Chase. When we have more news, we will share a further update.”

Fry added: “Hopefully it’s not long term. We’re trying to get to the bottom of the setback and when we have more news, when we know we’ll let everyone know.

“It’s obviously unfortunate timing but we’ve got to get to the bottom of it.”

Gidleigh Park is a best-priced 20-1 for the Arkle at next month’s Cheltenham Festival.
