Seventh heaven for Stoute

Sir Michael Stoute landed the Princess Of Wales's Blue Square Stakes for the seventh time as Doctor Fremantle took the feature on the second day of Newmarket's July meeting.

Ryan Moore steered last year's Derby fourth clear of the scrimmaging in behind aboard the 8/1 winner, with the long-time leader Schiaparelli wandering across the track through the final furlong and interfering with Alwaary before finishing second.

Those placings were reversed following the contact, while fourth across the line, Enroller, was demoted to sixth meaning Indian Days and All The Aces were placed fourth and fifth respectively.

The Khalid Abduallah-owned Doctor Fremantle had disappointed when well fancied for the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot, but showed much more of his old zest to come with a sustained challenge and take his tally for the season to two wins from three starts.

Stoute said: "I don't know what happened in the Hardwicke. We thought he was one of our best chances at Royal Ascot, but that ended up being a funny race. He's run three times for us this season and has won a Group Three and a Group Two and he's a horse we've always been keen on.

"We will have to think hard about where he goes as he is also effective over a mile and a quarter. I think the King George is doubtful as he would be having a few races in a short space of time. He is in the Juddmonte International and is well entered, and we also have Spanish Moon to run too."

Moore added: "I wanted to be a bit handier on him but he just has a habit of sitting in the stalls a bit and missed the kick. We got a nice lead though and I followed Duncan, who I thought was the horse to beat, and that just kept him interested and he settled nicely.

"When he was in front he was probably only doing enough. He's won two Group Threes already and run well in two Group Ones, this is about what he is."

The unexposed Alwaary stepped up again and after looking a huge threat entering the final furlong, connections were delighted with his promoted second-place finish.

Trainer John Gosden, who also saddled the 2/1 favourite Duncan to finish last of the nine runners, said: "Duncan got a bump early on which set him alight and he started pulling.

"Alwaary ran great and he was a little unfortunate not to be closer but he got crossed and these things happen. He's a possible for the Gordon Stakes and the Great Voltigeur."

Godolphin's Schiaparelli ran a massive race having been expected to need the outing to pass the post second. His rider, Ted Durcan, was suspended for four days (July 23, 24, 26 and 27) for the careless riding which resulted in Schiaparelli's demotion.

Trainer Saeed bin Suroor said: "He ran a big race. He had a foot problem and it was his first run since the Arc and he'll come on for the race."

Bin Suroor also sent out the well-fancied Campanologist to finish eighth, and he added: "We are disappointed with Campanologist. Frankie (Dettori) said he wasn't happy with the way he moved."

Enroller's jockey, Martin Dwyer, was also deemed guilty of careless riding and will sit out July 23, 24 and 26 for his offence.
