Shake up in Antepost markets following weekend action Constitution Hill is now odds-on for the first time for the Champion Hurdle (5/4 - 4/6) following Saturday’s seasonal debut in the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle. Last season’s wide-margin Supreme Novices Hurdle winner was most impressive in his 12 lengths romp in Newcastle’s Grade One contest and is beginning to look almost unbeatable if he returns to Cheltenham in March in similar form. Dual Champion Hurdle winner Honeysuckle is generally a 4/1 chance for the race while State Man has been eased a point to 7/1 and his stablemate Vauban is out to 12/1. Another Nicky Henderson-trained horse, Jet Powered, has shortened for the Supreme Novices Hurdle following an impressive racecourse debut at Newbury. The £350,000 ex-Point-to-Pointer has been cut from 14/1 to 6/1 for the Festival opener. Facile Vega, which had been entered for a race at Gowran Park on Saturday but wasn’t declared, heads the market for the race at a best-priced 2/1 with Coral. Henderson’s unbeaten Luccia has halved in price (8/1 - 4/1) for the Mares Novice hurdle following victory at Newbury, but surprisingly none of the other leading contenders for the race including Ashroe Diamond (steady 8/1) have moved in the market. Other Cheltenham movers from last week include Champ (25/1 -16/1) and Paisley Park (33/1 - 20/1) for the Stayers Hurdle following their close finish in the Grade Two Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury on Friday. Alan King’s £170,000 purchase out of Joseph O’Brien’s yard, Spartan Army, shortened from 40/1 to 25/1 for the Triumph Hurdle following an easy win on hurdles debut at Wetherby on Wednesday. Joseph O’Brien’s own 3-y-o hurdle winner Comfort Zone has been introduced into the Triumph betting at 20/1 following his win at Navan on Sunday. Fil Dor is into 10/1 from 16/1 for the Arkle Chase after his victory at Navan on Sunday. He has also shortened to 16/1 for the Turners Chase while the disappointing Thyme Hill is out to 25/1 from 16/1 for the same contest. American Mike is another on the drift following his defeat at the weekend. The Champion Bumper runner-up is out to 14/1 for the Ballymore Novices Hurdle from 5/1. He has also been knocked off top spot for the Albert Bartlett. He is out to 10/1 from 6/1 while Navan winner Grangeclare West has shortened from 14/1 to 5/1 favourite for the race. Classic Getaway’s victory over stablemate Minella Cocooner at Gowran Park has seen him tumble in price for the Brown Advisory Novices Chase (50/1 - 12/1) and the National Hunt Chase (25/1 - 10/1). There have been a few movers in the market for the Welsh National at Chepstow on 27 December after the weekend’s action. Troytown winner The Big Dog has been introduced at 14/1 while Le Milos is vying for favouritism at 8/1 (from 14/1) and The Galloping Bear is 10/1.
