Shanroe rallies gamely to gain follow up win Shanroe Act rallied gamely on the run-in to land the odds in the Aspall Handicap Chase at Down Royal. The Karl Thornton-trained gelding had landed a gamble over timber at Fairyhouse last Thursday and was a well supported 10/11 favourite (7/4 in morning) on his chase debut. He made the running in the two-and-a-half mile contest under Dan King but looked in trouble when headed by Royal Time going to the second-last. Gutsy recovery from market leader Shanroe Act was under pressure in third before the final fence as Luimneach tackled the new leader. King got a renewed surge from the market leader late on, though, as he stuck his head in front to record a half-length success over 25/1 shot Luimneach. The winning trainer was leading up and King said:- "He showed a good attitude. "He jumped really well and got into a good rhythm. In fairness, he battled it out well and hit the line well. "That's his second win in a short period of time, but the main thing was to get a bit of experience over fences and, in fairness, he jumped really well and took me through the race really well."
