Sheehan teams up with Mann Promising amateur jockey Gavin Sheehan is set to join trainer Charlie Mann in England, after the Galway Festival. Sheehan, 19 from Dunmanway, Co Cork, was Champion Irish Pony Rider in 2009 and has ridden two point to point winners and a first racecourse win with Whatsabillion in a handicap hurdle at Thurles in February. Sheehan stated “I’m moving to Charlie Mann’s yard in the coming weeks – probably after the Galway Festival, and am looking forward to the challenge.” “I went over on a two day trial earlier this month and things went well and I schooled a few horses. My neighbours from home Noel and Eamonn Fehily provided the link to Charlie Mann.” “I rode plenty of ‘flapping’ winners over the years and was Champion Jockey in 2009. I’m currently riding out with John Murphy and Tom Hogan and can claim 7lbs off 9st10lbs. For the time being, I’ll continue to race-ride in Ireland and am available for whoever wants me.” Thomas Weekes
