Shinnick completes quick 59/1 double on Stone Forest John Shinnick completed a quick 59/1 double when guiding Stone Forest to a breakthrough win in the Wexford Heritage Trails Handicap Hurdle. A close third over the course and distance earlier this month, the Eoin Doyle-trained four-year-old was sent off a 9/1 chance this evening. Settled behind the leaders, the Fastnet Rock bay improved into a share of the lead early on the final circuit and gained an outright advantage before the third last. Pushed along early in the straight, he found plenty when ridden on the run-in and came home two-lengths to the good in the colours of Christina Hughes. The Harry Kelly-trained Corkbeg (12/1) filled the runner-up spot under Cian Quirke, while 25/1 chance Gerrys Wish was another two-and-a-quarter lengths back in third. Sent off the 5/2 favourite, Corbally Cross was a was well-beaten eighth. "He had two good runs. The last day some of the hurdles were taken out of the race and it didn't help him, but he stayed on well," Doyle reflected. "We had the blinkers on him again today and it's not that he is a blaggard or anything, they just make him concentrate a bit more. He is only a four-year-old and is still kind of learning. "It's grand to get a win out of him this evening. He probably deserved it. "Johnny sent him on good and early, but he kept pulling out more and stayed well. I'd say he'll stay two-mile-six to three miles. "He is still a big raw horse and I don't know what the plan is now, maybe he'll go to Listowel. The owners (Gerry and Christina Hughes) like to go to Listowel." Shinnick was successful in the previous race aboard Paul's Dream for Tony Mullins.
