Sierra De Gredos doubles up at Gowran Park Having registered a first career success at the same track last month, the Andy Oliver trained Sierra De Gredos doubled up when landing the O'Driscolls Irish Whiskey Handicap at Gowran Park. Never far off the pace in the first half-dozen, Gary Carroll produced the 9/2 chance to challenge leader Mullacash Buzz early in the straight. Pushed along to lead over a furlong out, the eventual winner veered badly right, hampering second place Jackandthefox in the process. Once straightened up close home, the son of Almanzor stayed on to score by a length. With Jackandthefox suffering interference, early leader Mullacash Buzz rallied well for second. After a stewards enquiry, the placings remained unaltered. Carroll said: “He was a little slow but I got him up into a position. I had to bustle him to get there and when I got there he didn’t want to be there and ran around a bit. Thankfully he held on. “I’d say there is more in him. I was holding on to a bit so hopefully there is more in him. “He’s hit the front and immediately taken a step to his right. It’s a stewards enquiry so we’ll see. He’s not straightforward but there seems to be an engine there.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson.
