Sir Dragonet wins Cox Plate The former Aidan O'Brien trained Sir Dragonet has won the 100th running of the Group 1 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley in Australia providing current trainer Ciaron Maher with his first win in the event. Sir Dragonet which won its Maiden at Tipperary on debut in April of last year had his last start for O'Brien when finishing second to stablemate Magical in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh in June. The four-year-old son of Camelot was ridden to victory by Glen Boss who was winning his fourth Ladbrokes sponsored Cox Plate. Boss picked up the ride following the suspension of intended rider Hugh Bowman. He gets his big race, but it’s not for Aidan O’Brien! The Joseph O'Brien trained Buckhurst finished in tenth place of the fourteen runners while Aidan O'Brien's Magic Wand was a non-runner.
