Sir Percy Out To Prove He´s Vintage Class

Marcus Tregoning is hoping that Sir Percy will handle the rain-softened ground when putting his unbeaten record on the line in the Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood tomorrow.

The Mark of Esteem colt has won both his starts over six furlongs at Goodwood and Salisbury and now tackles seven furlongs for the first time.

'He´s in good form. Obviously it´s a step up in class, but he would have to go up in grade one day,' said Tregoning.

'However the ground does concern me. Both his wins have come on top of the ground, but there´s a bit of hope through his pedigree that suggests he could be all right on it.

'I don´t think any of the trainers can be certain if their horses are going to act on it.

'He´s won at Goodwood and I don´t think the draw (two) will be a problem because he has plenty of speed.'

Sir Percy also holds an entry in Friday´s Sterling Insurance Richmond Stakes over six furlongs but Tregoning decided to plump for the longer option.

'He´s got speed but on his pedigree the extra distance should not be a problem,' added the Lambourn trainer.

The only other youngster defending a 100 per cent record in the Group Two race is the Aidan O´Brien-trained Aussie Rules.

The grey son of Danehill, another with a Richmond entry, beat Alethia by two and a half lengths on his debut at the Curragh a month ago.

Mick Channon is double-handed with Yasoodd and Zato while Richard Hannon also has declared two horses - Cool Creek and Asset - although the latter will only run if there is no further rain.

The nine-strong line-up is completed by Mark Johnston´s Black Charmer, Gerard Butler´s League Champion and Right Again from Alan Jarvis´ stable.
