In a repeat of last year, Gordon Elliott sent out a our-timer on the opening day of the Down Royal Champion Chase meeting, as Skerry Hill kept on well to land the concluding WTW Willis INH Flat Race.

Sent off 4/7f under Harry Swan, the former point-to-point winner bounced out and made all for a game three-and-a-quarter length success.

Strongly pressed by Hopeful Hero from over three furlongs out, the Order Of St George gelding had to work hard before getting the better or that rival over a furlong from home, keeping on well close home.

Gordon Elllliott said: "He's a lovely horse. He's a baby, very green, but he's a lovely horse and we like him.

"You probably won't see much more of him this year. I'd imagine so (hurdling next year).

"He's a big chaser and that's the type of horse that Ronnie (Bartlett) buys."
