Andrew Slattery is looking forward to seeing Kurpany test his powers at a higher level later this summer following his impressive racecourse debut at Tipperary.

The son of Mayson pulled four and a half lengths clear with the minimum of fuss in the hands of 5lb claimer Ben Coen — a performance which came as no surprise to his trainer.

Slattery said: “In April we thought he was a Group horse, looking at the way he was working, but he’s a big horse and he was still a little bit weak at the time, so we said we’d back off him and give him some time.

“He’s come back well, I expected him to do what he did the other day and I think there’s more to come from him.”

Considering future targets, the trainer added: “We’ve no real immediate plans and he’ll tell us when he’s ready to go.

“I think we’ll give him a bit of time and I’m thinking we’ll aim for a Listed race somewhere at the end of July or early August, that sort of thing. I think there might be a race for him at the Curragh over five or six furlongs around that time.

“I think he’s a very good horse and he has the temperament and everything to go with it.”
