Sligo spin for trainer Liam Burke Trainer Liam Burke returns to the saddle at Sligo on Sunday when partnering his own Shumard in the Racing Again August 4th INH Flat Race. Burke’s last winner as a jockey is listed as 12,112 days ago, coming aboard Take Beating in the Crohane Millennium Handicap Hurdle at Killarney in 1988. Mrs Charmaine Hill was 62 when riding her last winner, Dawn Run at Tralee in 1982, and Burke, of a similar vintage at this stage, will be hoping for a good spin round on Shumard. He owns the Mountain High gelding in partnership with Frank Hayes. Burke said, "It's probably a moment of madness but I feel fit and my weight has not been as good for a long time. "I rode 17 winners on the track and 38 in point-to-points and the last time I can remember riding on the track was a charity race at Listowel nearly 20 years ago."
