Smullen favourite for Jockeys' Championship Pat Smullen continues to hold favouritism in his bid to win a seventh Flat Jockeys’ Championship, despite Johnny Murtagh holding a four winner advantage, albeit at this early point of the season. Smullen, who is also bidding to retain his title, has ridden 16 winners this season, four behind leader Murtagh. Jockeys Fran Berry and Wayne Lordan have each ridden 17 winners although bookmakers effectively think the contest is a two ‘horse’ race. Smullen is best priced at 5/6 (Stan James) with Murtagh 11/8 (Paddy Power) while Berry is generally an 8/1 chance with Lordan available at 25/1 (Bet365). Thomas Weekes
