Snaefell to start off in Woodlands Snaefell, a stalwart of the Irish sprinting scene, makes his return to action in the Woodlands Stakes at Naas on Saturday. Trainer Michael Halford's charge has scored in Group Three company for the last three years and will be using the Listed contest as a launchpad to his summer campaign. Halford admits the grey is likely to need the run but the seven-year-old is still pleasing the Doneaney handler as he enters the veteran stage. “All being well he'll run and he's in good form. He might just need the run the way he has been working but he's ready to start off,” said Halford. “He's still showing plenty of enthusiasm but it's a bit tougher to get him fit as he's getting older. He's as ready as we can get him without a run and he will improve fitness wise. “He's probably better going six furlongs now but he has to get started and he has run well in this in the past. It's a stiff five as well. “He's been a wonderful servant and has won five pattern races. He's still showing all his enthusiasm and we're looking forward to another good summer with him.” Gary Carson
