Solonaway Stakes next up for Brackan Brendan Brackan will skip the Vincent O'Brien Ruby Stakes at Killarney on Wednesday in favour of a crack at the Manguard Plus Solonaway Stakes at the Curragh on September 15th. The Ger Lyons-trained four-year-old turned the usually competitive Topaz Mile at Galway into a procession, winning by eight and a half lengths. Following a 13lb hike by the handicapper Lyons felt his hand was forced to let him take his chance in the Betfred Mile at Goodwood just a few days later but he was not surprised the effort was too much. "He's not going to Killarney, his next race will be the Solonaway Stakes," said Lyons. "Logically we had to have a go at Goodwood with just a penalty as he'd been put up so much by the handicappper, but you wouldn't normally go for two heritage handicaps like that in the space of just a few days. "I had a feeling that might happen but it was his last chance to run in a race like that so we took a gamble."
