Spencer fined over Black Sam ride Jamie Spencer has been fined €500 for his riding of Black Sam Bellamy, who finished fifth in the French Derby (Prix du Jockey-Club) at Chantilly on Sunday.In a special hearing convened at France Galop headquarters in Paris today, it was determined that Spencer had transgressed by moving to the left.Although not classed as a major offence, it was deemed that Spencer`s actions had hindered Great Pretender sufficiently to cost him third place.Consequently a fine was deemed the appropriate penalty for Spencer. He did not attend in person but submitted a written statement instead.France Galop spokesman Olivier de Malherbe confirmed that Michael Kinane was cleared over his riding of seventh-placed Diaghilev in the classic.It was concluded that Kinane had stopped riding at the time of his alleged offence and no action was taken. The Irishman also submitted a written statement.The stewards carried over the inquiry as some of the people they had wished to interviewon the day had already left the track.
