Spencer hopeful as Blanco goes to War Jamie Spencer is confident that Cape Blanco can give a good account of himself in the Man O'War Stakes at Belmont Park. Spencer has come in for the rides on Cape Blanco and Fame And Glory after Jim and Fitri Hay purchased shares in both horses and the 2010 Irish Derby winner is set to head back up in trip in the US$ 600 000 race. The Morning Line Favourite for the race is Gio Ponti and Christophe Clement's stable star is bidding to become the first horse to win three Man O'War Stakes on the bounce. Speaking to the Irish Independent, Spencer said: "He has met Gio Ponti before and he beat him in Dubai." The wet weather that has hit the area could well bring about further drama come post time as Clement has stated that if the going is good-to-soft or soft-to-yielding, he is likely to withdraw his horse. Elsewhere in the States, Dermot Weld sends Cannon Hill to compete at Arlington in the American Derby. Weld has won the race on three occasions with Pine Dance (2000), Evolving Tactics (2003) and Simple Exchange (2004) and the race is likely to act as a prep for the Secretariat Stakes at the course next month.
