Spick And Span got off the mark at the 20th time of asking when justifying 5/6 favouritism in the West 'Howya' Maiden Hurdle at Ballinrobe.

The Walk In The Park mare certainly wasn't winning out of turn having filled the runner-up berth in two Sligo handicap hurdles this summer.

Kevin Sexton had her in prime position tracking the leader Love At Sea in second. Spick And Span moved ominously well to challenge Love At Sea over the last and picked her off into the straight.

From there, she was kept up to her work to come in by four lengths from the 4/1 runner-up. Nothing Hectic (6/1) was the same distance back in third.

James Fahey said: "I'm delighted for her more so than anything else, as at least she has her winning bracket now. Frank (Reynolds, owner) bought her to turn into a broodmare and I was lucky he sent her to me to have fun with and see how we got on.

"I think the handicapper has me snookered though as, for an eight-year-old mare, he gave her 6lb for finishing second in a 0-100 in Sligo. She might jump a fence though and if Frank lets me, she could run in a Flat maiden.

"She is very well-bred and has her bracket now, so this is great."

This was her third run for Fahey.
