Eddie Lynam's sprinting pair Sole Power and Slade Power will head in different Group One directions after their meeting in Friday's Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York.

Sole Power, winner of this year's King's Stand, fared best with a close third behind shock winner Jwala, while the younger colt beat only a couple of the 17 starters home.

"They're both fine, and I think Sole Power will go to the Prix de l'Abbaye and Slade will probably go for the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock," said the Co Meath trainer.

"It was one good, one bad, really. Sole Power ran another really good race but Slade lost his chance when he got upset in the stalls.

"Looking at the sectionals, Slade actually ran the fastest furlong of any horse in the race (10.23 seconds) between the four and the three, but his chance was gone before that.

"He has a course and distance win at Haydock last year - I know it was only in a Listed race, but he had Es Que Love, Lethal Force and Bogart behind him that day."

Sole Power has been third and fifth in the last two renewals of the Abbaye at Longchamp on Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe day in October.
