Spy just had his head down at the right time to land the spoils in a tight finish to the second division of the ten furlong handicap at Dundalk.

There were three almost together inside the final furlong as Aingeal Dorcha and Colugo locked horns and were then joined by the eventual winner.

Aingeal Dorcha and Spy flashed past the post in unison and it was the Charles Byrnes-trained 3/1 favourite who got the verdict by a short-head, under Billy Lee.

Colugo was a length-and-three-quarters back in third at the line.

Spy had also won for connections, over hurdles, at Killarney in August.

Byrnes said: "We have to give that one to Billy! He was brilliant and codded him along - he's definitely a bit of a monkey.

"He is generally consistent under both codes, the jumping seems to have sweetened him up definitely.

"His best Flat form is over 10 even though we have tried a mile-and-a-half, I don't know how many times.

"He's had a long year and the lads might be more keen on a jumping campaign next summer, he might get a break."
