Stage Set For Noseda Ace

Jeremy Noseda's Stagelight heads a list of 39 horses standing their ground at the confirmation stage for the John Smith's Cup at York on Saturday.

Weights for the £150,000 heritage handicap over an extended mile and a quarter would go up 2lb should Stagelight, winner of last year's UAE 2000 Guineas, take his chance, putting the four-year-old on 9st 10lb.

Courageous Duke, another near the top of the handicap, is another possible from the Noseda stable.

The seven-year-old was eighth in the Wolferton Handicap at Royal Ascot on his latest outing behind Mark Johnston's I'm So Lucky.

The latter, sixth 12 months ago, is also among the acceptors, as is his stablemate Desert Realm.

I'm So Lucky incurred a 5lb penalty for his length and a quarter win over John Gosden's Wild Savannah, who could renew rivalry.

Wild Savannah is 7-1 favourite with William Hill, who quote I'm So Lucky at 8-1.

Other possibles include the Ernest Oertel-trained Chancellor, a 40-1 winner at Epsom last month, Brian Meehan's Star of Light and George Margarson's Royal Ascot winner Young Mick.

The last-named pair were third and sixth respectively behind Consular in the Old Newton Cup at Haydock at the weekend.

The maximum field allowed is 20, while two reserves will also be declared at Thursday's final stage in case any non-runners are announced by 11.30am on the Friday.
