Starluck has Christmas in his sights

Starluck will attempt to go one better than last year in the William Hill Christmas Hurdle following his encouraging seasonal debut at Newbury.

Trainer Alan Fleming was delighted with his stable star's effort in finishing second to Peddlers Cross in the rearranged Fighting Fifth Hurdle on Saturday.

And the Dorking handler will now prepare the five-year-old for Kempton on Boxing Day in the bid to improve on his effort in 2009 when he failed by just a short head to peg back Go Native.

"He's absolutely flying after it. It was a great run, we were very happy with him and obviously it was a very serious horse that beat him," said Fleming.

"We'll head to Kempton now at Christmas with him. The track should suit him better there than at Newbury the other day, so we will have to see.

"We'd like to think he'd improve for the run."
