State Of Wyoming made it five winners from the last eight runners sent out by Paddy Twomey's stable when taking the opening colts and geldings maiden in Roscommon.

The Night Of Thunder colt sported a first-time visor on his third start after an unplaced run at Navan and a sixth in the Curragh.

Front-running Karrygrant , in first-time blinkers, kept the field more than honest with the pace of his gallop and, although his lead was reduced a furlong and a half down, he was still toughing it out for Ben Coen.

An improving State Of Wyoming collared him just outside the furlong pole and despite edging right in the closing stages, the 7/4 favourite kept on well to strike by a length and a half over the 11/4 runner-up. There was a five-length gap back to Resurgence in third at 11/4.

Billy Lee said: “He's done it well. He ran on the first day of the season and he was off a long time after.

“I thought he ran well in the Curragh, he was very green through the race, but he came home well.

“I wasn't really worried the distance because he shows a bit of speed at home. He travelled around well and he picked up well.

“He's done it nicely and he's hit the line well. A mile is probably his trip.

"He's got through the ground as well but he'll go on better ground.

“I thought it was a nice performance.”
